Amendment 80 Explained
When this amendment was signed by the North Pacific Fishery Management Council, it was done in pursuit of broad goals. Namely, the idea was to boost both the utilizing and retaining of fishery resources by the non-AFA trawl catcher/processor fleet. Namely, it did so by making it so that non-AFA trawl catcher/processor vessels of all lengths would be covered in the groundfish retention standard (GRS). Additionally, it established a limited access privilege program for non-AFA trawl catcher processors (so as to reduce any GRS compliance costs) while authorizing allocating groundfish species to cooperatives that harvest. Those are just some of the goals of the amendment. As ever, if you have any questions, our staff will be more than happy to answer them.
Permits Related to the Amendment
At our site, we have many forms related to this amendment. For Example, the “Cooperative Quota Permit App” makes it so that an Amendment 80 cooperative can participate in the program. Additionally, we have “limited access permit” forms that are also what they sound like. One thing to keep in mind about many of these forms related to the amendment: they have to be received by the powers that be no later than 1700 hours A.L.T. (5 PM) on November 1st. (To be specific, that’s the November 1st prior to the year that you wish to participate in the Amendment fishery.)
Transfers You May Need
Many Alaskan commercial fishing professionals come to our site not so that they can enter the Amendment fishery, but rather so that they can transfer the permits they have. To that end, we make it possible to transfer the Quota Share application you may have, as well as an “Intercooperative Transfer CQ” as well. When it comes to this amendment, we’ve got you covered.
More Alaskan Commercial Fishing Permits
That said, we’ve got you covered when it comes to far more than just this amendment. For example, as of this writing, we offer commercial fishing permits in Alaska for more than a dozen different species. Of all of the commercial fishing opportunities around the United States, some of the most lucrative very well may be in and around Alaska. At our site, we not only offer the forms that you need to be able to take advantage of those, but also an easier way to fill them out, too. Questions? Just call (866) 292-4204.
