Atlantic Mackerel, Squid, and Butterfish

Vessels fishing for mackerel that are less than 165 feet in length overall, less than 750 gross registered tons, or have a shaft horsepower less than 3,000 may receive one of the mackerel permits listed above. Anyone with a valid vessel operator’s permit can obtain a federal open access Atlantic mackerel, squid, or butterfish permit.

    Include applicable forms below with your signed and dated application:

    • All vessels: copy of current (not expired) US Coast Guard (CG) Documentation or State Registration.
    • Corporations, LLCs, Partnerships: signed and dated list of owners/officers/partners and their addresses.
    • Limited access Sea Scallop permit holders: Sea Scallop Vessel Ownership Form with each vessel application.
    • Charter/Party requests: CG Documentation must state "coastwise" or include a copy of your Captain's License
